Seattle, Washington — (AP) For decades, dog owners and dog lovers in Seattle have tried to find a home for their furry friends.
But now, a new nonprofit called the Dog Adoption Center of the Puget Sound is the first shelter in the United States dedicated to finding loving homes for the furry companions of the world.
The Dog Adopt-A-Home program was started in 2017 by a team of veterinarians and animal-lovers in Seattle who realized that it was impossible to adopt dogs from shelters that were only looking for healthy dogs for adoption.
And in the process, they realized that adopting a dog could be a great way to make new friends and learn new skills.
Dog Adoption Centers of the Northwest, an organization of pet-friendly veterinarians, dog-lover groups and animal rescue groups, has a waiting list of more than 700 dogs, cats and ferrets and has trained more than 2,000 volunteers.
The group has been able to raise more than $2 million to start its Dog Adopts a Home program, with support from the Pet Alliance, a national nonprofit working to save the lives of animals.
The first Dog Adoptions a Home adoption center in the Pug- est Sound area opened last year.
It now houses approximately 150 dogs, about 50 of which are puppies.
The dogs are being adopted to local dog-loving organizations.
Some of the shelters in the region, including the Pugliese Humane Society, Puget Humane Society and the Seattle Animal Shelter, are also accepting dogs.
But for many, adopting a puppy is not enough to make friends and bond with a new companion.
So the dogs must be adopted from local shelters.
In the past, the dogs have been adopted by families who were looking for companionship.
But it wasn’t until a few years ago that many of the organizations that were willing to take in a dog adopted a dog from an animal shelter.
“It’s really an opportunity for people to go in and really have a bond with their furry friend, or even get a dog they’ve never met before,” said Melissa Estrada, the founder and executive director of the Dog and Cat Society of Puget.
The Puget Adoption Club, a nonprofit working with animal shelters in Seattle, is the only shelter in Puget County that will accept adoptable dogs.
Estradas organization is trying to bring more people to adopt from the shelter to the local animal shelters.
The organization, which has about 5,000 members, has been serving dogs and cats from the Seattle area since 2012.
It currently has around 150 dogs and 80 cats.
