The GOP has come up with a new campaign ad that is a triumph for adoption mothers.
The new ad, created by the American Legislative Exchange Council, the conservative policy group that helped craft the legislation that made adoption a permanent option in states across the country, features the adoption of four-legged dogs by a father and his son.
The ad is titled “We Can’t Wait.”
The ad features footage of children’s stories of adoption, including a toddler who adopts a dog from a shelter after learning that the family would be homeless for weeks.
It shows a family’s pet, named Tootie, being adopted by a family member.
The group’s CEO, Tom Steyer, is credited with helping the legislation pass.
The political ad is one of a number that are airing in the run-up to the 2020 midterm elections, with a focus on voting, tax reform and a new law that requires states to give legal permanent residency to same-sex couples.
In the 2020 election, the ad will run in Florida, where President Trump is running against Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
In a statement on Thursday, the organization’s president, David Simas, said: “The stakes are high for our country when the courts say states can’t make marriage the norm.
Our job is to fight for the families of America who will have to be supported by states when they are forced to decide if they want to change their marriage laws.”
